11 September - Belle Dune

Glorious Belle Dune, lovely day, hardly anyone else there.  Played pairs with Neil, vs Martin and Trev . Began to score really well, pars on 2,3,4 then steady 2 pointers and birdies on 9 and 10.  Neil came in where I didn't so 48 points total. Played 13 particularly well, drive, 7, 9, good chance of birdie. Calculated 39 points individual, despite two blobs at 7 and 17.

Delightfully quick round, no holdups, course as magical as ever. Back for more leisurely shower and change, then to Vauban for afternoon cold wine and nibbles. Martin and I decided to walk the ramparts, seeing the setup for the day's extreme obstacle event. Town full of teams in fancy dress from the time we'd set off.  Asked a lady what the distant two spires were and they turned out to be a monastery.  She turned out to be a very chatty English lady who gave us loads of details about the town and insisted we go back to her house for aperitifs - bottle of champagne and more about her life story.

Rejoined the rest at Froggys, good meal of entrecôte steak, more champagne bought by Neil to toast my birthday, lots more wine ...
